Ok, so I am a photographer who prints. I am seriously thinking of upgrading to an XDR vs iMac 2019 5K vs Benq SW321C. Which do you think is best -- taking money out of the equation.. Then if money is in the equation, is the winner that much better than the second place -- assuming I want very good color accuracy.

One thing I fear is this "visually lossless" compression. Color critical work need mathematically lossless compression. In the cinema/video/TV industry every codecs that are visually lossless means "good enought to look at" (from a cosumer stand point) not "good enough to work with" (from a professional stand point).

  32. Pierre Potonnier

    Pierre Potonnier4 ヶ月 前

From what I can find on the vesa website, DSC is not mathematically lossless. It uses some already used mathematically lossless compression that we can found on other standards, and other technics that are not mathematically lossless. So it's a no-no for color critical work. it also induce a greater delay between the source and the display but at least the delay is constant.

I would never get tech like that...its just tech go obsolete lose value and breaks. Good luck...limited warranty when is over with. These pros are so irresponsible...no excuses. Ten years later you think same value you bought it new...I dont think so...ten year old xeon $10k is now $20 on ebay. Lol. You can't say it pay for itself when $5k monitor breaks after warranty. Not fan of hdr...looking like projector or old school tube tv...contrast and standard issues. I cannot say a best buy...just wasting money when need to be replaced.

Why is using colour-accurate monitor really necessary for content creators except for those who work for printed media like magazines? I mean, if colour-accurate monitors are that expensive, that means that most consumers of the content do not have such monitors and would not be able to tell the difference whether the content is colour-accurate or not. Whom would using colour-accurate monitors benefit, other "professionals" with expensive colour-accurate monitors?

I can't help but feel this isn't a product Apple intended people to use. It's not as good as competitors in its space, and it's too expensive for the average Joe. I think it exists solely to impress people who will never use it, and don't have a use for it. Maybe its existence is just a capstone to keep people in the cult, so to speak.

Whether a Pro Display XDR is good enough for you is going to mostly depend on who's paying for it. If Disney is paying your bills it's not going to cut it. If you're freelancing for indie films it's great. If you look at text all day and all that color stuff is just icing on the 6K cake, look no further.

As HDTVTest already implied in a proper review, this monitor is basicially for noone. It's not for pros as it's far inferior to actual pro monitors and the price just isnt something a normal consumer wants to even consider, especially because, for a consumer there are monitors out there for way less money and seem basicially the same for them.

The pro-XDR display is not really "pro" it handles low light terribly due to it being ips and the amount of bloom is insane. The reference sony monitor thats $43,000 is still worth forking over the cash as its more color accurate, contrast, no bloom, and actually serves as a pro display.

Considering the price and the fact its supposed to be a halo product these are not nitpicks, its very real flaws. IMO those "nitpicks" makes it seem unimpressive, as if they did not create what they advertised, not truly. If they could not do it properly they should have waited a year, if they think this is ready and good enough its kinda sad IMO. Apple died with Jobs in spirit and now exist as a corpse, the very word corporate comes from.

Listen apple fanboys, this display is is bad, a professional cant use it cause you cant even display "black", its grey in this display. See comparisons to real Pro displays like the one from Sony. The "Pro" display is not for Pros but hey, the price is high so for who is it then? The answer is in my comment somewhere, a very special customer group....

Charlie Brown It *IS* an old TV tech. But when monitor makers wait 10 years to implement it, there’s not a lot PC users can do. Contrary to niche opinion, most people are unwilling to put a 48” LG OLED TV on their desks. There are no better options for the desktop than $4000+ local dimming displays by Apple and Asus.

It’s a fuckin scam hdtvtest proved it. If developers are willing to shell out 5 figures on a display, they’d rather spend a little more and get the bvmhx310. The “pro display” doesn’t even show true blacks when compared to the sony. Anyone who defends apple on this is a cocksucking sheep. Apple themselves claimed their display can be compared to Sony’s but the harsh truth is it doesn’t come close.
