Really well done 👍🏻. I especially liked how you made the tarpaulin, the finish on it looked great. I have put together a few models recently but have yet to buy an airbrush kit and started with learning to apply more realistic finishes to them. Watching your videos I see as the first step in learning. Though I have a long way to go! Thanks!

To be honest i am already looking forward to assemble the flexible tracks. Listening to some podcasts, smoking some joints and this kind of fiddly work becomes very meditative and relaxing to me:) great video buddy! A lot of new techniques i will be trying with this model! I'm just home with the jumbo it's got both kinds of tracks in it with the metal springs! The rubber track bands are stunning best I have ever seen! And that's coming from me! A guy who bins rubber bands straight away or gives them away! But these will be getting used on my jumbo the look like the ones you just fitted and there like individual rubber blocks just beautiful for bands! I'm away to do it in a winter scheme too with my hellcat! Just finishing up RFMS interior Sherman it's nice too but I have to say I'm more impressed with my jumbo from meng to the hull on the new RFM kit! The turret hatch springs are moulded in like an old Tamyia kit would be but there separate wee plastic springs in the meng kit! Fair enough easy to scratch build but it's not the point on a £75 kit! Mengs is alot cheaper and more detail even the cast texture is better on the superstructure at hatches! Very impressed!

Yo any one know a good website to order decent models like this one I just finished my first model (Witch is a 1/35 scale Panther F by Tanya) but I want ones like this that has metal components like this(as I had a problem of the tracks first of all not correct and second of all, A general pain in the arse was the tracks where slightly to small and would rip the running gears off) but I can't afford any thing real expensive as I'm only 12 if you do pls reply with a link.Thank u if u do(And thank u if u managed to read the hole messege

Hello and thanks for watching. So there are a few places to take a look; www.dominomodel.be/ www.modelhobbies.co.uk/ www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/ If you're after metal tracks though you will expect to pay more for the kit. Since metal tacks are more detailed that the plastic molded ones they typically appear in more advanced kits. More advanced the kit = the more expensive too. Take a look though and use this website www.scalemates.com/ to see what kits are out there. There is often a link to the instructions too so you can see what the box contains. Hope this helps and good luck with your models!

I’ve always been cautious of using different makes/mediums on models... but you seem to use anything at your disposal, resourceful I might say.. I guess you can use any medium or make, as long as it’s applied in the correct order. Primer + Acrylic + Oil... they’re the only rules, correct me if I’m wrong?

  53. David Bentick

    David Bentick2 ヶ月 前

@The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling gotcha 😉 now just have to put in some practical work. Thanks.

  54. The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling

The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling2 ヶ月 前

Hi David, That's exactly right yes. So if you intend to use oil washes then use an acrylic or lacquer based varnish. The medium of the varnish can be the same as the paint, just not the following weathering products. If you plan to use acrylic weathering products then an enamel varnish would be required or the thinners would also remove the varnish. Basically weathering and varnishes should be opposites to stop the chance of one removing the other. Hope this helps and I'll try and explain this in more detail in my next video 🙂

  55. David Bentick

    David Bentick2 ヶ月 前

@The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling I hope I’ve read you correctly; you’re saying seal the Acrylic paint, with a Clear Varnish and once that’s dry... apply the Enamel/Oil washes... which can be easily removed because of the protective layer of varnish... in-between the Acrylic & Enamel/Oil Washes? Best regards, David.

  56. The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling

The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling2 ヶ月 前

I've never had any issues. As long as the medium beneath is of a different medium - so acrylic clear under enamel washes and oils - then everthing is okay. I use a variatey of brands liek you've said as well as different carrier bases but as long as the previosu layer is sealed in with an opposing medium then it will remain protected. They are only rules and you can use them to your advantage to save or remove certain aspects of it througout the weathering process.

@Stephanie Longden When it comes to teaching inanimate objects i find a BIG hammer a very good educational tool :D If you know what i meant then my communication was successful ;) I had much more damning critique from my teachers at school, however :D And yes it is a blooper and it is also the manifestation of my dyslexia and reliance on the spell checker to get rid of the red wiggly lines......Curse my non-neurotypicalness (feel free to pick the bones out of that word, it's just a big red wiggly line) And on the point of accuracy, surely Bloopers are binary :)

Don't blush, but it's by far the most beautiful Sherman kit video I've been given to see on JPreporter. Your research on paints is really impressive, the use of these grey nuance then partly covered and hidden by another green spraying really is a realistic (at least to my eyes) rendering of a faded olive drab. Congratulations ! And thanks too, because this technique is really inspiring. May I just say you forgot a couple of details, though ? The lower hull draining holes have not been drilled. The main gun also should be chrome colored at its extremity (recoil portion was not painted on 76 mm Shermans).

Hello and welcome back. First of all thank you for watching my video and I hope that they will help you along in getting into model making :) I would suggest that you start simple and cheap. There are tonnes of tools, paints and equipment out there that can be a little confusing to a new modeller at the best of times. Pick some paints that will cover most of what you are intending to make. Mixing paint is the cheapest and qiuckest way to determine what the next products you want to use will be - DON'T buy the full range as I can guarantee you'll want to change them once you get used to what you like. I chose Tamiya acrylics for my first selection - they're easy to get hold of and good quality plus you can thin/clean with water. Then your basic tools - side cutters (wire cutters will do), some sand paper (400-1200 grit will cover the basics), Poly cement - I recommend Tamiya Extra Thin. Tweezers also help. Equipment is a very pay-for-what-you-get market. Cheap tools are usually not as good as more expensive ones. Once you've got the hang of model building then maybe an airbrush. That will help you get a better finish on the models and get to some more advanced steps like weathering etc. Again start cheap on this, a dual action gravity feed airbrush is best with a compressor capabable of running 10-20psi comfortably. Each will be around £30 and last you until you're ready to move up again if you look after them. Make sure you get an airline and have the correct fittings to connect them up! As for kits, stick to Tamiya for now. They fit great and are available as well as cheaper compared to some other brands. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions you can ask me directly here. If you want to get some 1:1 tutoring you might be interested in my Patreon page (www.Patreon.com/TheInnerNerd) where I have a series of videos specifically made for new modellers and FAQ's about specific techniques and processes :) Good luck!

@The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling there were two ads at the start, and I got through 15 minutes of the video and had at least 6-7 mid rolls interruption with 2 ads each. I stopped watching it because the chapter markers seemed to correspond with the mid rolls. Sorry I don’t mean to be a butt, because you gotta make money too yknow? But it honestly takes the fun out of watching the video when your explanations about your modeling techniques kept getting cut off by ads.

There's only two ads that I am aware of? One at the start and one part way through. Have you watched the video and seen the ads there? Reason I ask is that they're chapter markers you're seeing, not ads.

I just completed the same kit 2 weeks ago...MENG never provided the brass pins so I have to improvise and use staples from an office stapler...it was a very long and painful process...here's the final result: ibb.co/02JhB0Y - ibb.co/rMxH861 - ibb.co/RyszZds

None of my creations had ever needed the Landing Gear hahahaha....well most of 'em. I'm still building but now in The Philippines woo hoo ! Never give up :)

Did you refer to your efforts on the Sherman as a failure? Are you mad? That was one freakin' beautiful job!

  140. The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling

The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling4 ヶ月 前

Not exactly the model itself - more the fact that I ws supposed to make this an easy project which turned out to be quite the opposite. I usually make aircraft and use armour as a break from the same same of building planes. But this one got me really working to make it what it turned out to be. Partly through my own fault too lol

fantastic work! How would you say the scouring pads compare to any of the pre-cut weathering stencils?

  144. The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling

The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling4 ヶ月 前

Thank you. They're definitely cheaper. Easier to get hold of and you can control the size of the pattern. It's harder to see what you're doing I guess (but I haven't tried the stencils to compare directly). But other than that they do the same job and can get good results

I like your work. I have only just got back into model-making after about 20+ years so I am very rusty. My question for you is how did you paint the black rubber around the road wheels to perfection? Thanks in advance & for your posts!

  146. The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling

The Inner Nerd Scale Modelling4 ヶ月 前

Hello and thank you. Welcome back to modelling also. I hope my videos are helping you along. So I just airbrushed them. Since the wheel spun freely in its axle you can use the air to spin it and paint on some very smooth lines. It's much easier than making and painting the edges by hand. Just make sure your paint is thinned enough and you hand is steady.

Great vid but there are a lot of things wrong with the kit 1.The thunderbolt VII had a muzzle brake ( Aplies for both the custom made thunderbolt tank and the M4A3E8 model from factory) 2.The thunderbolt VII Had a lot of extra armor added by the crew 3.The model of the tank wasnt M4A3 (76) W it was just M4A3E8 4.The easy eight (the name for this model made up by the crews) had wider tracks and not theese extensions (this is true for the Thunderbolt VII too) This kind of extension was only present on the Jumbo, you off course fixed this with aftermarket tracks 5. The easy eight had extended fenders 6. This Hull does not match the Easy eight as it had HVSS suspension, this hull matches the M4A2

Amazing build, great techniques, good pacing in the video editing, very good voice-over and a fantastic subject done in an original way. Many thanks for sharing your work, and I do agree that this channel should get more publicity, it's really worth it. Yes, please, it would be great to see more Armor modeling in your channel. One idea: how about Japanese WWII tanks, Fine Molds have some amazing examples, their camo schemes are very attractive and they have not been done to death (yet) like the German WWII subjects. Even Pacific Shermans would be nice, especially with their other-than-olive-drab camo. French tanks too. Hungarian tanks are also very interesting (check out Bronco models). And of course we'd all love to see some German Panzers too at some point :-) :-) . All the best!

Thunderbolt was the tank Creighton Abrams commanded, he went through 7 different ones all named Thunderbolt. Number 7 had additional plates of steel attached to counter the 88 mm used by the Germans. Abrams was also the only man Patton said was a better tanker than him.

At 8min that joint you should have left, it's how actual shermans looked because of the way the turret was cast metal, not machined.
