    Does this engine not have a vct solinoid and a vct screen I know on certain early 2000 honda engines a clogged vct screen prevented the vtec from engaging

    Check the MAF, sometimes if the MAF is malfunctioning, it can throw a car into limp mode.

    I'm 99.9% sure that I know the problem, it is one of two things. The first possibility can be verified in a matter of minutes. I realize that you've read the vin on the back of the head which indicates it as coming from an AP2 chassis, however, that does not eliminate the possibility of it having a swapped head or a swapped vin plate. To confirm that it is indeed the correct engine for that chassis, you will need to verify the engine code. On the driver's side of the engine block, just below the first intake runner will be a stamped engine code. An AP2 should be stamped "F22C1" and an AP1 will be stamped "F20C1." I can clearly see that the engine did have an F20C1 intake manifold, throttle body and wire harness, so that alone should be enough to raise suspicion. If the block is in fact an F20C1, it is not going to ever run right with an F22C1 ECU. Option #2 is going to take a lot of explanation, so I'll wait for your reply before making this comment any longer.

    Not sure if you guys got this sorted or not but there's a sensor at the bottom of the engine call the knock sensor, if its bad it won't allow you to rev pass 3000 rpm

    you have a dual overhead cam engine thats why it had 2 cam postion senors and now you are trying to run it on one cam with the wrong valve cover and wrong cams so the ecm is freaking out also if those cams are off by one tooth it will run in limp mode and give crank postion codes and cam postion codes

    I think its you wire harness guys. I have a 2002 honda Accord that I did the same thing to trying to fixed a trans error. In the end the error was the O2 sensor faulting out and breaking the fuse to the ecu but that's not the point here. In my adventure of solving this issue I replaced the engine wire harness. after that, my headlights stopped working and I always had a code for the O2 Sensor heater even after I replaced it. Turns out that while the car I took the harness from was almost exactly the same, mine is a ULEV and the harness I got was for a regular Accord ex. After I swapped back to my old harness, everything is back to normal. I know its probably not what you wanna hear but that's a Honda too and your issue seems to relate to that harness. Just a thought tho guys. Keep up the good work.

    Crankshaft position sensor usually reads teeth from trigger wheel attached to crankshaft. Usually there are certain amount of teeth with one (or more) cut off and signal from cam shaft sensor has to match this missing tooth point for engine run properly. Compare teeth amount in both of the engines and check if they match. Also check if the ckp sensors are of same type in both.

    I don’t know if you have got the problem with it not revving past 3000 rpm fixed yet but my old s2000 had to be fully warmed up before it would rev past 3000

    Europe uses RON. US uses the average of RON and MON. 98 in Europe is about equivalent to 93 in the US. You cannot directly compare the two.
