I love what you guys are doing, what a great job. Note: Before you start the engine you should always open the engine hatch and run the blower to get any gas fumes out of the bilge. Be careful to do that so you don't blow the boat up. Doug, US Coast Guard Aux. .

If you have to ask if its a chevy or ford you don't need to be worrying about changing out the intake or carb, although I did on everything when I was your age as well, LOL. Anyway, that my friends is a small block chevy, the best possible engine you could have in a boat that size, that 5.0 or 5.7 has mostly interchangeable parts. Don't change the intake or carb out unless you know an old carb guy to help tune it with proper jets etc. Clean it up and run it. Get that tac running so you can monitor engine RPM, you keep running it at full throttle you will have a boat engine bay full of parts. Like what you guys are doing, you have to learn some time. I enjoy your videos, just found yours last night.

You should do a larks head knot when securing the wakeboard line to the tower it would be a little more secure. They lock in tight and wont come loose but still have maneuverability. Awesome vid guys!

a Chevy 5.0 is a 305 cid .... if you're gonna put an Edelbrock (or any carb) on that motor, make sure you are absolutely positively buying one that is specifically built for marine applications....VERY IMPORTANT! Automotive and marine applications are COMPLETELY different.

5.0 is a 305 small block Chevy engine and I’m pretty sure that it has the throttle body on it with is all controlled by a cpu. I would leave the tbi on it not swap to a carburetor. Need to check the drive line lube like your oil every time you go to run it. Keep up the good work.

I don't know anything about boats cause I don't have one and I never worked on one, but I saw a little bottle with a small yellow cap on it under the hydraulic pump. If you actually pop it out, you'll change the fluid quick and easy, just like power steering fluid for example

I sure hope you aren't revving that engine to 6000RPM. Take a look on the flame arrestor on top of the carb, it will list the max RPM which I believe is 4500 for the 5.0L engine. You need to get another tach and verify the readings of the gauge in the dash. Also DO NOT put a standard Holley carb on this engine. You MUST have a marine carburetor because the venting of the fuel bowl is different to prevent raw fuel flowing into the hull in the event of a float valve failure.

Attach the rope to the pylon with a slip knot. Push a bit of the rope through the loop that is already there and attach the loop you created to the pylon.

Me and my dad work for mercury motors at bernico boats. I know a lot about boats, and i know you are looking at an old 12k motor over there. It's a big engine but not the biggest at all, a in board motor is modifyble and can add some hp to it. Only the fin in the back can give you 20hp more if you put on a dual prop

A mercury is a company run by ford and the mercury 5.0 is the same as a ford 5.0 which is a 302 or a 289 so it’s a 8 cylinder motor and you can get any parts from a ford 5.0 and they will bolt right up

  64. CJ Osman

    CJ Osmanヶ月 前

I think you are confusing Mercury Marine with Mecury the car company. Mercury Marine stopped using Ford blocks in the late 70s and switched to a GM block. Easy way to tell is the distributor location. If it's in the back it's a GM block.
