YES; just beautiful touch and expression !! One complaint. Just after that contrapuntal passage halfway through, just about everyone speeds up too soon...Chopin. only wrote acc. on the top of the next page, which surely means not earlier; in fact I think the preceding passages should be slower, molto espressivo. Unfortunately I'm now 89 with a bad right arm, and can no longer play this Ballade myself any more. But; I can listen to Rubinstein!

My opinion is that Zimmerman is the number 1 best in Chopin ballades, nobody can beat him, but for the rest of Chopin's work: etudes, waltz, mazurkas, preludes and so much more, that belongs to Rubinstein, but seriously nothing can beat Zimmerman's interpretation on the Chopin ballades, it is like he belongs to them.

I think of the 4 ballades as 4 seasons of the year. The first in g minor is early autumn; the second in f major is like late winter; the third in a flat major is like spring; and the fourth in f minor reminds me of melancholy of the late summer.

Whenever I hear a jaw dropping piano piece like this, my first thought is not who the pianist is...but Who is the freaking guy who created/composed this?? How can a human being think of such a complex piece that has so much soul & depth; filled with so many 'things' happening yet sounds so musically satisfying?? Mr CHOPIN....if you can read this...I dont think you are a human...but a superior Alien from a far away planet that is millions of years more advanced than us but birthed in a human body so that you can be in a 3D body like all of us here on earth and compose these marvellous pieces for us to enjoy. I dont know how you do it...and I am not complaining. Many people will praise the Pianist ....but for me...the COMPOSER is far superior to any Pianist no matter how good the pianist is. Unless of course if the pianist can also compose as good as CHOPIN!.

  59. EMPIRE ENTERTAINMENT & EVENTS

    EMPIRE ENTERTAINMENT & EVENTS3 ヶ月 前

@Corinne Vasta naw... we can find hundreds of thousands of pianists who can play this. Finding pianists is not the problem cos there are so many of them around...but finding another Composer who can compose such amazing music like Chopin is the issue! can you tell me who can compose as good as CHopin now in 2020? If you know of anyone...please show me his/her FB link or youtube link. I wanna hear if they are anywhere close to Chopin's level or not.

I don't agree with you. You see, Chopin was very special indeed and certainly a genius but without a genius pianist to interpret his works they would sound bad even if the composition in itself is a masterpiece. Very little pianists can achieve such depth when playing as what we hear in this recording.
