A magical piece of music. And I love reading scores. Rubinstein playing of course. The expert at Chopin.

My opinion is that Zimmerman is the number 1 best in Chopin ballades, nobody can beat him, but for the rest of Chopin's work: etudes, waltz, mazurkas, preludes and so much more, that belongs to Rubinstein, but seriously nothing can beat Zimmerman's interpretation on the Chopin ballades, it is like he belongs to them.

I think of the 4 ballades as 4 seasons of the year. The first in g minor is early autumn; the second in f major is like late winter; the third in a flat major is like spring; and the fourth in f minor reminds me of melancholy of the late summer.

The ending of this Ballade is already overwhelming, and on top of that he plays it too fast. There is only so much that the human brain can take.

Whenever I hear a jaw dropping piano piece like this, my first thought is not who the pianist is...but Who is the freaking guy who created/composed this?? How can a human being think of such a complex piece that has so much soul & depth; filled with so many 'things' happening yet sounds so musically satisfying?? Mr CHOPIN....if you can read this...I dont think you are a human...but a superior Alien from a far away planet that is millions of years more advanced than us but birthed in a human body so that you can be in a 3D body like all of us here on earth and compose these marvellous pieces for us to enjoy. I dont know how you do it...and I am not complaining. Many people will praise the Pianist ....but for me...the COMPOSER is far superior to any Pianist no matter how good the pianist is. Unless of course if the pianist can also compose as good as CHOPIN!.

@Xam 123 naw... We can find thousands of good pianists everywhere. Without the composer there is nothing for pianists to play!

I don't agree with you. You see, Chopin was very special indeed and certainly a genius but without a genius pianist to interpret his works they would sound bad even if the composition in itself is a masterpiece. Very little pianists can achieve such depth when playing as what we hear in this recording.

Ohoh our fella Chopin must’ve liked Beethoven, there are many parts repeated in different variations that resemble Für Elise!

There are few Chopin piece shows all chaos, anger, neglect and upset, and this Coda is. Few works attain endings that powerful, either.
