  18. Mainster

    Mainster20 日 前

Agree with many other comments re A Boy and His Dog belonging on the list. Though I don't know how a faithful rendition of a Harlan Ellison story could possibly be that underrated. Also, Andromeda Strain (mentioned several times) might should get Honorable Mention, even though you almost have to have read the book to get some of what's going on. One I didn't see in the comments, and maybe rightly so, is Buckaroo Banzai (Across the Eighth Dimension). You have to be the kind of person who has watched Airplane! a dozen times, and still finds it hilarious, but if you are, it's pretty enjoyable.

I did see Pi. For me it was painful to watch. I'll *never* get that wasted time of my life back. I liked the premise. But feel it was very poorly executed. I doubt that I myself, not being a film maker, could do any better. But neither could I do worse. Unless, maybe, if attempted with sock puppets. But Gerry Anderson could have probably done much better using marionettes.

Others have mentioned Dark City, and Dark City. Which I agree should be on this list. But ‘Moon’ from 2009 was really great too. Only one human actor, but it was very well acted, and an interesting story. And i am sure most people viewing this have to be watching ‘The Expanse’. But if you are not, do yourselves a favor, and hop over to Amazon Prime Video and watch the first 3-4 episodes. Most sci-fi lovers I’ve mentioned it to are totally hooked.

The original Rollerball seems to get overlooked these days too. Some good social commentary in there. Also I know everyone knows Soylent Green because of one line, but how many people are actually watching it these days? Good depiction of over population and food shortages, and a good performance by Edward G. Robinson in his last role. And never leave out A Boy and His Dog.
